WACO, Texas (Jan. 20, 2017) – In honor of the 90th anniversary of the tragic accident that claimed the lives of 10 Baylor students in 1927, the City of Round Rock will host a dedication ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, at the City Hall Council Chambers, 221 E. Main St. in Round Rock.

At the ceremony, Round Rock will dedicate the newly named “Immortal Ten Bridge,” located on Mays Street in downtown Round Rock over the railroad tracks where the collision between bus and train took place. The bridge, originally built in 1935, has been updated with green and gold striping, green light poles and plaques to honor the students who were killed in the collision.

“The story of the Immortal Ten is such a monumental piece of history that will always tie the City of Round Rock and Baylor University together,” said Courtney Ainsworth, downtown manager for the City of Round Rock. “Our Mayor Alan McGraw wanted to ensure that the city dedicated something of proper significance to memorialize the Immortal Ten.”

The dedication ceremony will feature the history and the ties between Round Rock and Baylor with speakers to represent both entities, followed by a balloon release.

To RSVP, email downtown@roundrocktexas.gov or call 512-218-5403.

“We are honored to memorialize such an important piece of history with family members of the Immortal Ten, Baylor alumni and Round Rock citizens,” Ainsworth said.
