Velasquez Named Student Outreach Coordinator

Katherine Velasquez has been named student outreach coordinator for the Office of Health Education and Wellness at Baylor University.
The outreach coordinator's responsibilities include developing alcohol and drug awareness programs for Baylor students and supervising the Bearobics program. She also provides individual consultations and community referrals and conducts presentations on a variety of health and wellness related issues.
Besides consultations and referrals, the Student Outreach Program offers students numerous alcohol and drug information resources. Velasquez also will work with CAST (Campus Awareness Support Team). The student Outreach Program offers special awareness activities throughout the year, which include Health Enrichment Week, National Alcohol Awareness Month, AIDS Awareness Month and Safe Break Awareness Week.
Velasquez said she believes all people can lead health conscious lifestyles.
"I really like to see students make healthy choices and encourage others to do the same," Velasquez said. "I look forward to the day that the socially responsible behavior is the socially desirable behavior."
Velasquez earned a bachelor's degree in nursing and a master's degree in health promotion and fitness from the University of Texas in Austin and is a registered nurse.
