Former U.S. Treasurer to Present Lecture at Baylor University

WACO, Texas (Oct. 17, 2016) — Rosie Rios, U.S. Treasurer from 2009 to 2016, will present a lecture at Baylor University on “My Life in Treasury: Financial Crisis to Currency Design” at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, in Room 250 of the Paul L. Foster Campus for Business and Innovation, 1621 S. Third St.
Rosa “Rosie” Gumataotao Rios was the 43rd Treasurer of the United States. Most recently, she led the efforts to place a woman on U.S. currency.
Rios will discuss the road she’s taken from the world of finance to the public world of empowerment. She will explain the role money plays in today’s world and how that has changed over time. Rios also will talk about the demand for currency and what it means for the consumer, retailer and economy.
"Rarely do we have high-ranking members of the U.S. government visit the Baylor campus,” said Heidi J. Hornik, Ph.D., professor of art history. “Treasurer Rios has been an exceptional influence on the U.S. currency design and the role of women in our democracy. She is personable and an enthusiastic advocate for life in public service. Students, staff and faculty alike will benefit from hearing her experiences."
This lecture is free and open to the public. It’s presented by the Baylor University College of Arts & Sciences, the department of art, the department of history and women’s and gender studies.
