Baylor University Opens Campus for Summer Programs

WACO, Texas (June 22, 2016) — Far from quieting down for the summer, Baylor University's campus is teeming with elementary, middle and high school students attending Baylor's many summer programs.

From June to August, Baylor offers 35 music, sports and skills-enhancing summer programs designed to introduce students to campus and allow them to work with experts to improve their abilities in a number of fields.

For students interested in music, the Baylor School of Music hosts several programs throughout the summer including middle school and high school band and orchestra camps, a high school choral camp, and summer piano and orchestra institutes. Applications are closed for all music camps except the All-State Choral Camp, which is currently wait-listing male applicants. In addition, the Center for Christian Music Studies is offering a summer Worship Lab for high schoolers aspiring to be worship leaders and instrumentalists.

Baylor also will host a Christian Leadership Institute open to high school seniors who want to challenge their minds, discover their strengths and build their faith, a five-day iEngage Summer Civics Institute for fifth- through ninth-graders working to improve their leadership skills, a summer debate program that is accepting applications and a summer research program for undergraduate students. Additionally, Baylor is offering a summer reading program for children, students and adults, as well as Camp Success, a skills program for children with language-based reading impairments.

Baylor's athletic department also offers camps for a range of ages in baseball, football, men's and women's basketball, acrobatics and tumbling, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. Age requirements, length of camps and registration dates vary for each sport, and most sports are hosting several sessions throughout the summer.

"Baylor Tennis Camp gives young players an opportunity to experience world-class tennis instruction while living on the beautiful Baylor campus," said Matt Knoll, Baylor director of tennis.
