Southern Newspaper Exec to Speak at Journalism Banquet April 24

Leon Brown, executive editor of Southern Newspapers, will speak for the Baylor University Department of Journalism spring banquet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at Eastland Lakes.

Brown is a long time executive with Southern Newspapers. The Lariat newsroom is named after Brown's father-in-law, Fred Hartman. Brown's daughter graduated from Baylor with a degree in journalism.

The program which will last approximately 90 minutes includes a dinner, award presentations and the guest speaker's presentation.

Awards will be presented for outstanding journalism student, outstanding senior journalism student and the David McHan writing awards. Jason Ranton, student media adviser, will announce the 1997-98 school year editors for The Baylor Lariat newspaper and The Round Up yearbook. The journalism honor society, Kappa Tau Alpha, will induct its new members and departmental scholarships will be awarded.

Tickets are available in the journalism department office for $5, which includes the price of the meal.
