WACO, Texas (May 6, 2016) – Isabel Kazan, a freshman University Scholar major, was recently selected to receive the Israel Experience scholarship to study abroad this summer with the 2016 Israel Experience Student Program.
"Winning the scholarship definitely came as a happy surprise," Kazan said. "It was a long few months waiting on the response, so I was super excited to see that email in my inbox."
Founded in 2004, the Israel Experience is a three-week intensive study program that brings top college students to Israel.
The program was created to educate young Christian leaders about the Jewish roots of the Christian faith and give them a firsthand perspective on the situation in the Middle East.
"I applied for the Israel Experience Program because I have always wanted to learn more about the history and culture of Israel, and what better way to do that then travel there," Kazan said. "Additionally, there is so much rhetoric in the political world going on right now concerning Israel and Palestine, and I think that it is crucial to know the historical background of the cultures involved before entering into political discourse."
Students from 110 universities across the United States and Europe have participated in the program.
While traveling throughout Israel, students interact with a variety of leaders, including government officials, diplomats, famed authors and historians, rabbis, Christian Arabs, journalists, media analysts and political experts.
Kazan will work with students from throughout the United States and said she's looking forward to meeting them.
"I am especially excited about traveling around Israel and gaining a deeper understanding of the conflict as well as Christian tradition," Kazan said. "I have been to Europe before but never the Middle East, so I cannot wait to experience the culture for myself."
