March 25, 1997

WACO, Texas -- Baylor University will host the 41st annual Central Texas Regional Science Fair Thursday and Friday, April 3-4, in the Ferrell Special Events Center.
"We have 234 projects registered which represents the work of 370 students from 11 counties," said Joan Anderson, office coordinator for the science fair. "For the past two years, we have had a much larger than normal number of participants."
Science Fair participants are separated into one of two divisions. Students in grades 6-8 participate in the junior division while grades 9-12 are entered in the senior division. Each division is further broken into 12 different science categories ranging from chemistry to computer science. Awards are presented to junior and senior division winners.
Judging for the fair begins at 6 p.m. Thursday.
The public is invited to view the various science projects from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday. The award ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. The top two individual winners in the senior division will qualify for the International Science Fair, which will be May 3-9 in Louisville, Ky. The top team in the senior division also qualifies for the International Science Fair.
In addition to displaying their science projects, students also will attend a series of workshops presented by TU Electric, the Baylor Department of Chemistry and the Department of Aviation Sciences.
