Baylor Chapel Invites Students to Prayerfully Respond to Refugee Crisis

WACO, Texas (Oct. 12, 2015) – In response to the refugee crisis happening around the globe, Baylor chapel will host a day of prayer for refugees on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
Baylor’s Abdul Saadi, Ph.D., assistant professor in Arabic, will share a testimony during chapel services. Carlos Colón, a refugee who fled El Salvador many years ago, will share his story. Attendees will have the opportunity to pray for refugees in Southeast Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and South and Central America.
“I feel strongly that it is our Christian responsibility to pray for all of those who are currently displaced,” said Ryan Richardson, associate chaplain and director of worship and chapel at Baylor.
“As we experience the privilege of going to class, heading off to work, grabbing a cup of coffee or catching up on a series on Netflix, millions of people around the world are living where they cannot even find a place to lie down,” Richardson said. “Many of these people are used to privileges just like us and now find themselves in the throes of poverty, isolation and often abuse.”
Students and faculty are invited to add their prayers for refugees or global violence to the prayer wall posted in the Bobo Spiritual Life Center on Baylor’s campus.
Baylor’s department of spiritual life encourages the Baylor community to take some time to pray for the refugees. Prayer services will occur at 9:05, 10:10 and 11:15 a.m. in Waco Hall, 9:05 a.m. and 10 p.m. in Robbins Chapel, 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. in Memorial Chapel and 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. in Elliston Chapel.
All services are free and open to the public. Waco Hall is located at 624 Speight Ave., Robbins Chapel is located at 600 Dutton Ave., Memorial Chapel is located at 1420 S. Seventh St. and Elliston Chapel is located at 1701 S. Third St.
