‘The President’s Own’ U.S. Marine Band Will Perform Concert at Baylor University

WACO, Texas (Oct. 6, 2015) – The United States Marine Band, also known as “The President’s Own,” will perform at Baylor University at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, in Jones Concert Hall.

"'The President’s Own’ U.S. Marine Band is a national treasure and the oldest professional musical organization in our country,” said Brent Phillips, associate professor of trombone in Baylor’s School of Music and former band member. “These men and women are the best artists in the business and were selected among an elite class of instrumentalists through a national audition process. If you have not heard our nation’s top military wind ensemble, you must see what you have been missing.”

The band will play the music of composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Camille Saint-Saëns and Percy Grainger, as well as that of the band’s 17th director, John Philip Sousa, nicknamed “The March King.” There also will be music by Waco-born composer and trumpeter Fisher Tull.

Directing the band will be Lt. Col. Jason K. Fetting, the 28th director in the band’s history. He joined the Marine Band in 1997 as a clarinetist.

The Marine Band is on a 29-city tour throughout the southern United States.

The concert is free and open to the public, but tickets are recommended for assured seating. Up to four tickets per person can be reserved at the box office in the lobby of the Glennis McCrary Music Building or by clicking here.

Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. for ticket holders and at 7:15 p.m. for those without tickets if space is still available.

Jones Concert Hall is located inside Glennis McCrary Music Building at 110 Baylor Ave.
