WACO, Texas (Aug. 25, 2015) – Heidi Bostic, Ph.D., professor of French and chair of Baylor University’s department of modern languages and cultures in the College of Arts & Sciences, has been named the 2015 Texas Foreign Language Association (TFLA) Higher Education Administrator of the Year.

The TFLA Awards, Scholarships and Nominations Committee selected Bostic for the dedication she has shown her school, students and community.

“I am truly honored and humbled to have been selected for this award,” Bostic said. “The Texas Foreign Language Association advocates for language teaching and learning across the state of Texas. The organization represents the best of our profession, and for Baylor, it is a wonderful recruitment venue for high-ability students interested in studying languages.”

Bostic will be honored at a luncheon during the TFLA Fall Conference in Houston.

“We are humbled and inspired by the excellence Bostic has demonstrated during her years in world language education,” said Susan Dworaczyk, immediate past president of the TFLA.

Bostic received her Ph.D. from Purdue University. She has authored many articles and books, including “The Fiction of Enlightenment: Women of Reason in the French 18th Century.” Her research interests include 18th-century French literature and culture, women writers and fostering collaboration across the sciences and humanities.

“The successes we have enjoyed in modern languages and cultures over the past several years are thanks to my extraordinary departmental colleagues who work tirelessly on behalf of Baylor students,” Bostic said. “The TFLA Higher Education Award will help draw attention to our efforts in modern languages and cultures to link language study to broader interdisciplinary initiatives.”
