Director of Asian Studies to Speak March 6

March 5, 1997

Dr. David Mungello, associate professor of history and director of the Asian Studies program at Baylor University, will speak on "China's Absorption of Hong Kong After 100 Years" at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 6, in Room 201 of the W.R. Poage Legislative Library on the Baylor campus.
Mungello will focus on China's history and how Britain acquired Hong Kong. He will also discuss the future of Hong Kong in light of China's recent political changes.
"Because I lived in Hong Kong, and have spent time living and researching in China and Taiwan, I am interested in it both in a professional and a personal sense," said Mungello. He holds degrees from George Washington University and the University of California at Berkeley.
The lecture series is sponsored by the Council for International Education.
