Seminary President, Author Charles Swindoll to Speak March 4

February 26, 1997

WACO, Texas -- Dr. Charles Swindoll, president of Dallas Theological Seminary, who was named one of the 12 most effective preachers in the English-speaking world, will speak Tuesday, March 4, at Baylor University during the Effective Preachers Program.
Swindoll will speak at 7 p.m. at Jones Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building. The public is invited to the 7 p.m. presentation. He also will speak to students at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, in Waco Hall during Chapel-Forum.
In 1994, Swindoll became the fourth president of Dallas Theological Seminary where he attended as a student. He has held pastorates in Dallas and Irving, Texas; Waltham, Mass.; and Fullerton, Calif. Swindoll's ministry is shared internationally through numerous books and articles as well as an extensive cassette tape distribution system and daily radio broadcast titled "Insight for Living." He was honored in 1988 as Clergyman of the Year by the Religious Heritage of America.
Outstanding speaking ability is one of the qualities used to describe Swindoll, said Dr. Larry Lyon, professor of sociology at Baylor who conducted the survey to find the preachers.
"One of the people who nominated him said he has more natural speaking ability than anyone he has ever encountered," Lyon said.
In February, Baylor named 12 individuals as the most effective preachers in the English-speaking world according to a worldwide survey. Included on the list, in which seven denominations are represented are the Rev. Billy Graham and Dr. James Forbes Jr.
