Office of Recruitment Hires Hispanic Liaison Officer

February 19, 1997

The Baylor University Office of Recruitment and Parents League recently hired Jessica Sanchez as an admission counselor and Hispanic Liaison Officer.
Sanchez will recruit students from the Rio Grande Valley area and parts of Houston. A December 1996 graduate, Sanchez majored in marketing. She participated in the Baylor Association of Hispanic Student in which she served as president. Sanchez also founded Kappa Phi Gamma, which is a social service organization on the Baylor campus.
While recruiting students, Sanchez said she wants to help increase the retention rate of students from the Valley area and strengthen the relationship between Baylor and high school counselors in the Valley. Sanchez said she also will pursue establishing an alumni chapter in the area. Support for Baylor in the Valley area makes her job exciting, she said.
"What better job is there than recruiting students for Baylor," Sanchez said. "Selling Baylor is probably the best job I have ever had. It sells itself."
The Baylor minority student population is currently more than 20 percent.
