WACO, Texas (June 3, 2015) – Baylor University graduate Maj. Christopher Scheibler, flight surgeon for the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, will fly at the Heart of Texas Airshow on June 6 and 7 at the Texas State Technical College (TSTC) Campus Airport.
While at Baylor, Scheibler studied mathematics and graduated from Baylor's Reserves Officers Training Corps (ROTC) program in 2005. Following Baylor, he went on to complete medical school at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences.
"The experiences and opportunities I have been afforded so far in my career are a direct result of the quality education and training I received through Baylor's Air Force ROTC program and from the Baylor faculty," Scheibler said. "My leadership classes in ROTC always focused on emphasizing the Air Force's core values of integrity, service and excellence. These values closely paralleled Baylor's mission of excellence and service demonstrated through its motto: Pro Ecclesia and Pro Texana."
Prior to joining the Thunderbirds, Scheibler served as the flight surgeon for the 555th Fighter Squadron at Aviano Air Base, Italy. With the Thunderbirds, he is tasked to provide medical care to more than 120 team members and pilots.
"Dating back to when I was a kid, I had always been fascinated with the Thunderbirds. As a flight surgeon in the Air Force, I aspired to represent our airmen around the world and to work with some of the most talented pilots our military has to offer," Scheibler said.
During his trip to Waco, Scheibler plans to visit Baylor and is excited to see how the university has changed in the past 10 years.
"Between the completion of the Baylor Sciences Building, McLane Stadium and all the residence hall renovations, I imagine the campus looks very different from my time there," Scheibler said. "Most of all, I look forward to being back in the Baylor community and to see the university in the midst of so many spiritual, academic and athletic successes. I am planning on a nostalgic run around campus via the Bear Trail to enjoy all the new changes."
