WACO, Texas (April 2, 2015) – Baylor University’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary will present its annual Parchman Endowed Lecture Series on Tuesday, April 7, and Wednesday, April 8, in the Paul W. Powell Chapel. “The lectures will review missional practices in 20th-century world Christianity,” said Brian Brewer, Ph.D. “It will help students understand the history of how Christians have done missions in the past to give us a sense of how we may do missions in the future.”

The series will consist of three lectures presented by Dana L. Robert, Ph.D., the Truman Collins Professor of World Christianity and History of Mission and the director of the Center for Global Christianity and Mission at Boston University.

The first lecture, “Friendship: A Global Missional Ethic,” will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 7. “In Christ There is No East or West: 1920s Visions of Fellowship,” will take place at 7 p.m. the same day. Finally, “Postcolonial Friendships” will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 8.

Robert’s research includes mission history, the history of world Christianity and mission theology. Her most recent book is “Christian Mission: How Christianity Became a World Religion.” Robert received her B.A. from Louisiana State University and her M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. from Yale University.

“Dr. Robert is one of the most well-known experts on Christian missions and world Christianity,” Brewer said. “We, as a mission-oriented institution, are delighted to have her speak about what churches and Christians should be doing.”

The Parchman Endowed Lecture Series was designed to bring world-renowned theologians to the Baylor campus and enable Truett Seminary to make a contribution to the realm of theological dialogue.
