WACO, Texas (Feb. 17, 2015) – Spring 2015 is here, which means All-University Sing has a new repertoire of song and dance. Performances will take place at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 19-28 in Waco Hall.
According to Baylor sophomore Student Productions member Lainey Muhlberg, this year’s production has an incredible range of themes.
“There are funny acts, sentimental acts, dramatic acts and acts with powerful storylines,” Muhlberg said.
Student organizations that participate will perform a seven-minute choreographed show as part of a competition with one another. Of the 18 acts this year, the top eight will graduate to the coveted Pigskin Revue of Baylor’s homecoming weekend in the fall.
“My favorite part of Sing has been the secret of the themes and competition,” said Baylor sophomore Katherine Muldoon. “Each group performs an act that involves a ‘secret’ theme, unique choreography and singing. Each group has a signature move, and it is incorporated into their dance every year.”
Traditionally, organizations strive to keep the theme of their acts secret until opening night so as to heighten suspense and drive competition.
“College students in different organizations work for months on perfecting choreography, singing and character development in their acts. Sing is like a bunch of different Broadway shows put on by talented and committed college students all jam-packed into a night of performances,” Muhlberg said.
The tradition of Sing is older than the tradition of dance at Baylor University, originating at a time when dancing off the stage was prohibited. Since its humble beginnings in spring 1953, All-University Sing has grown from a mere 13-student performance to a more than 2,000-person production.
Waco Hall is located at 624 Speight Ave. in Waco.
Tickets for Thursday Club Nights are $18-$22 for students; $20-$24 for general public. All other nights are $20-$24 for students; $22-$26 for general public.
