Baylor Academy for Leader Development Welcomes Mental Health Advocate Colleen Coffey

WACO, Texas (Oct. 31, 2014) – In an effort to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues in today’s society, Colleen Coffey, Ph.D., will present a lecture titled, “Silence the Stigma,” at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, in Miller Chapel.
Coffey is a mental health advocate for Active Minds, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising mental health awareness among college students. She has experienced personal mental health issues, including anxiety, depression and disordered eating, for most of her life.
Since receiving the right treatment for her mental health issues in her early 20s, Coffey has become a speaker and consultant devoted to showing audiences that recovery is possible and communities have the power to make positive change. She regularly consults with fraternities, sororities and Active Minds chapters on topics, including leadership, stigma reduction and recruitment.
Coffey holds degrees from Belmont University, Eastern Illinois University and Trevecca Nazarene University.
