WACO, Texas (Oct. 29, 2014) – Alumna Megan Rapp, B.B.A./B.A. ’07, will be the guest speaker for this year’s Baylor Interdisciplinary Core (BIC) Homecoming Lecture at 2:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, in the Bobo Spiritual Life Center. She will present a lecture titled “Letting My Life Speak: Pursuing International Affairs as a Vocation.”
Rapp works for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Office of Development Credit and oversees the development of new partial-credit guarantees to support development objectives in Africa.
“My favorite part of my job is connecting talented businesswomen and men in Africa with finance so that they can pursue their ambitions,” she said. “I love traveling and problem solving, all with the end goal of empowering borrowers to access finance for their enterprises and projects.”
Adam Moore, BIC program coordinator, said the lecture will provide an opportunity for Rapp to examine how her Baylor and BIC education affected her future.
“Many students struggle to make the connection between their education and how that education relates to their future careers,” he said. “Megan’s work with the USAID is a great example of how an education at Baylor can help prepare a student for government and/or international work that makes a difference in the world.”
Rapp also studied at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, The American Business School and the Université de Paris-Sorbonne. Prior to working for USAID, she worked for the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and taught school in Miami, Florida, with Teach for America.
“BIC was a very formative experience for me, and, in fact, continues to shape how I view the world, problems and solutions,” she said. “It helped me start putting puzzle pieces of history and current events together, which I didn’t even realize needed to be put together.”
The Bobo Spiritual Life Center is located at 500 Speight Avenue. For more information, email the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core.
