Scholarship Created in Honor of Bill Harlan

November 15, 1996

Bill Harlan, director of administrative services for the Office of University Development at Baylor University, was honored recently with an endowed scholarship in his name.
The Bill Harlan Endowed Student Foundation Scholarship was created by past and present Student Foundation steering committee members.
Harlan, while assistant to the Baylor vice president for development, worked with former Baylor President Abner V. McCall to organize Student Foundation in 1970. Harlan served as the director of Student Foundation for the first 10 years of its existence at Baylor.
"Sam Smart from Fort Worth and Ed Crenshaw from Lakeland, Fla., (members of the first steering committee) contacted me with the idea for the scholarship," said Missy Wells, director of Student Foundation. "Since he is nearing retirement, we thought this would be a way to honor him."
Donations of more than $16,000 have been made to the Bill Harlan Endowed Student Foundation Scholarship. Each year, a deserving student will be awarded a scholarship from the interest earned on the donations.
Anyone interested in making a contribution to the Bill Harlan Endowed Student Foundation Scholarship should contact Wells at 755-3497.
