WACO, Texas (Feb. 4, 2014) - The Baylor School of Education will welcome William H. Schubert, Ph.D., a professor of education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6 in Marrs McLean Science Building, Room 301.
Schubert will present a lecture titled "Diverse Spirits of Dewey in Alternative Critiques of Contemporary Curriculum." Schubert is one the nation's leaders in curriculum studies, progressive education and the study of John Dewey, an American philosopher, psychologist, and educational reformer whose ideas have been influential in education and social reform.
Gretchen Schwarz, Ph.D., a professor of curriculum and instruction at Baylor, said Schubert is both scholarly and entertaining.
"Students will have an intense but enjoyable experience," she said. "He is very thought-provoking as far as American education goes."
Schubert has authored books on curriculum, including "Curriculum: Perspective, Paradigm, and Possibility" and "Turning Points in Curriculum: A Contemporary American Memoir."
The lecture is hosted by the Baylor School of Education's department of curriculum and instruction. Marrs McLean Science Building is located at 1214 S. 4th St.
