Journalism Seminar Rooms Dedication Set for Oct. 25

October 24, 1996

Baylor University's Department of Journalism will dedicate three new seminar rooms and a First Amendment plaque at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, in Room 240 of the Castellaw Communications Center.
The rooms were constructed in honor of three former Baylor journalism professors. Mrs. Alice Cheavens, wife of the late David A. Cheavens, will cut the ceremonial ribbon to open the rooms.
The David A. Cheavens Room will be dedicated by David McHam, professor of journalism at Southern Methodist University. Sherry Boyd Castello, former editor of The Baylor Line alumni magazine, will dedicate the Dr. Charles D. Johnson Room. Professor emeritus C. Adrian Vaughan of the Baylor Journalism department will dedicate the Frank E. Burkhalter Room.
Charles L. Overby, Baylor regent and president and CEO of the Freedom Forum, will dedicate a First Amendment plaque at the ceremony with his daughter Melissa, a senior journalism student. The Freedom Forum funded this summer's renovation of the department.
A Homecoming reception and buffet also will take place at the Texas Sports Hall of Fame from 5-6:30 p.m. on Friday. Tickets may be purchased in the Journalism Department office in Room 261 of the Castellaw Communications Center. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students in advance, and $12 and $6 at the door.
