WACO, Texas (Oct. 25, 2013) - As part of the Fall 2013 Distinguished Artist Series, the Baylor School of Music will welcome the Zagreb Saxophone Quartet in performance at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, in Roxy Grove Hall.
The quartet, four graduates of the Zagreb Academy of Music in Croatia, will perform a variety of works such as a Haydn string quartet transcription for saxophones and Jerome Kern's "The Way You Look Tonight."
Michael Jacobson, Ph.D., professor of saxophone at Baylor, said he hopes students will gain a new outlook from hearing the performance.
"I've been trying to get them to come here for some time," he said. "I think it is good for students to get some exposure to people and musicians from other areas of the world. I think they will get a good, different perspective from these guys."
The quartet is composed of Dragan Sremec (soprano sax), Goran Merćep (alto sax), Sasa Nestorović (tenor sax) and Matja Drevenek (baritone sax). During the final portion of the concert, the group will welcome Eugene Rosseau, Distinguished Professor of Music at Indiana University, and Jacobson to join them in performing.
Tickets are available online at www.baylor.edu/music, or in person at the School of Music box office in the Glennis McCrary Music Building, 110 Baylor Ave. Baylor students will gain free admission and non-Baylor attendee tickets are $5. Unsold tickets will be available for purchase at the door in Roxy Grove Hall, beginning 30 minutes before the concert.
Roxy Grove Hall is located at 624 Speight Ave. For more information, call Ruth Tucker at (254) 710-3571.
