WACO, Texas (Oct. 25, 2013) - The Baylor Spiritual Life Center will host two Taize Prayer Services during the remainder of the semester. The first will be held Tuesday, Oct. 29 and the second Tuesday, Nov. 19 in the Spiritual Life Center Chapel.

The unique worship experience, which originated in the Taize monastery of southern France, employs chanting as a form of expression. The service is contemplative in nature and the objective is to sing until the "singing becomes serene."

Carlos Colón, coordinator of worship initiatives and a Resident Scholar at the Institute for Studies of Religion, said the goal of the service is for the audience to stop and reflect on God.

"We are hosting this service as a way to invite the Baylor students, staff and faculty to pause and worship our Lord," he said. "The songs and Scriptures are our prayers, and our desire is to love the Lord with our whole being during this time of worship."

Both the October and November dates will have services offered from 11:30 a.m. to noon and from 12:35 p.m. to 1:05 p.m.

Colón will be joined by University Chaplain Dr. Burt Burleson in leading the service.

The chapel is located in the Bobo Spiritual Life Center, 500 Speight Ave. For more information, call the Office of Spiritual Life at (254) 710-3517.
