Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation to Host Sports Medicine Lecture

WACO, Texas (Oct. 3, 2013) -- Baylor University's health, human performance and recreation department is hosting the 2013 Texas Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine Fall Lecture Tour at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9 in Marrs McLean Science building, Room 101.
Guest speaker Mike Reid, Ph.D., dean of the College of Health and Human Performance at the University of Florida, will present a lecture titled, "Free Radicals, Antioxidants, and Muscle Function."
Peter Grandjean, Ph.D., associate professor of health and human performance, said Reid is a "premier scientist in the exercise sciences."

"Dr. Reid's work has been instrumental in unraveling the many factors that influence skeletal muscle function," Grandjean said. "His work has contributed to our understanding of muscle physiology as well as to practical information used by health care practitioners for preventing muscle dysfunction and for rehabilitating those with chronic disabilities."

The lecture is free and open to the public.
