The Parchman Endowed Lecture Series Welcomes Richard Mouw

WACO, Texas (Sept. 26, 2013) - The Parchman Endowed Lecture series will feature Richard Mouw, Ph.D., Sept. 30 through Oct. 2 at Baylor University's George W. Truett Theological Seminary.
Mouw, Distinguished Professor of Faith and Public Life at Fuller Theological Seminary where he also served as president for 20 years, is a philosopher, scholar and author of 19 books. He will speak on modern Christian theology.
Brian Brewer, Ph.D., an associate professor of Christian theology at Truett Seminary, said the annual series seeks to invite guests who are at the top of their careers, and Mouw fits that description.
"He is a leading evangelical, philosopher and theologian in America today," Brewer said. "He is very well published and an excellent spokesman in theology."
All of Mouw's lectures will stick to the theme of Christian discipleship. How Christians engage in the broader culture and how to deal with those who have different beliefs are two of the topics that will be covered.
The schedule of lectures is as follows:
' Monday, September 30th: "Exegeting the Cultures that Shape Us," 7 p.m.

' Tuesday, October 1st: "Why God Likes Ancient Chinese Vases," 11 a.m.
"Engaging Religious Pluralism," 7 p.m.

' Wednesday, October 2nd: "Holy Worldliness," 11 a.m.
Q&A Luncheon, 12 p.m.
Brewer said The Parchman Series is not just for Truett students or religion majors.
"We hope everyone can enjoy the series," Brewer said. "Dr. Mouw can engage in a lot of different people's lives and we welcome people from the broader community - not just Baylor - to attend."

The lectures have just one objective: to equip attendees with the knowledge of how to spread the good news of Jesus Christ.

"We hope students leave with a different sense of how to engage in culture and how to translate the gospel to a world who doesn't know who he is."

All lectures are free and will be held in the Paul W. Powell Chapel at Truett Seminary, located at 1000 S. 3rd St., on the Baylor campus.
