WACO, Texas (Sept. 25, 2013) - The department of physics in Baylor's College of Arts & Sciences has released its 2013 Fall Colloquium Series. The events are:
Sept. 25:
Who: Zhengdong Cheng, Ph.D., associate professor in the Artic McFerrin department of chemical engineering at Texas A&M University's Dwight Look College of Engineering
What: "Nanoparticles as Models for Atoms and Molecules"
When: 4 to 5 p.m.
Sept. 27:
Who: Ken Call and Indra-Mani Ghimire, graduate students and teaching assistants in the department of physics in Baylor's College of Arts & Sciences
What: "Detection of Rotation Perpendicular to Line of Sight Using the Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) of a Light Beam" and "How do steps in the dissociative adsorption of water play role on Rutile TiO2 (1 1 0)?"
When: 3:35 to 5 p.m.
Oct. 18:
Who: Matthew Benesh, Ph.D., member of the Semiconductor Physics Group at the University of Cambridge
What: "Acoustic Transport in Low-Dimensional Electron Systems"
When: 4 to 5 p.m.
Inviting researchers to speak on campus helps relationships between professors at Baylor and other universities, said Jay Dittmann, Ph.D., associate professor of physics. Although they encourage collaboration among university professors, these lectures are not solely for their benefit.
"One main goal of physics colloquium is to expose undergraduate and graduate students to cutting-edge research taking place both at Baylor and other universities," Dittmann said. "We highly encourage students to attend because we consider exposure to research as valuable as coursework!"
