Aug. 29 pep rally for Baylor Football features team's thoughts on upcoming season, performances by Ben Rector and Kyle Park and fireworks display
WACO, Texas (Aug. 26, 2013) - Kicking off the final year at Floyd Casey Stadium, Baylor University's annual Traditions Rally will open up the 2013 Baylor football season with a bang, beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29.
Nashville-based musician Ben Rector will headline this year's Traditions Rally with a free concert open to the public. Rector will showcase his new album, The Walking in Between, which can be found on iTunes. Having toured consistently since his junior year at the University of Arkansas, the young artist has spent the past six years building an impressive fan base that enables him to routinely sell-out clubs and theatres nationally.
"Traditions Rally is an excellent opportunity for Baylor students and the Waco community to come together as one and prepare for a fantastic football season," said Bryce Kunkel, a senior recreation major from Arlington and a member of the Baylor Chamber of Commerce. "Baylor football is undoubtedly one of the most watched teams in the nation currently. In addition, we are very excited to bring Ben Rector, who recently released a new hit album, to Waco, to play a free-to-the-public show. Traditions Rally is an event for the whole family, and we hope to see everyone there."
The event will begin with Texas country star Kyle Park, who will perform from 6:15 to 7 p.m. outside of Floyd Casey Stadium. Park's performance is sponsored by Delta Tau Delta fraternity.
The pep rally begins at 7:30 p.m. inside the stadium as members of the 2013 Baylor Football team speak about their upcoming season while the Baylor Spirit Squads and Baylor Golden Wave Band lead fans in a first-hand experience of some of Baylor's greatest traditions. In addition, for the first time ever, members of Baylor Football's highly-touted freshman class will lead the Baylor Line onto the field at Floyd Casey Stadium.
Rector will take the stage following the pep rally. The evening will close with a fireworks show that will certainly dazzle spectators.
Coming off an exciting 2012 season that ended with a powerful win over UCLA in the 2012 Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl, the Baylor Bears look to continue their momentum in 2013. They begin the fall with high expectations, coming off a program-record three straight bowl appearances and having received first-place votes in the Big 12 preseason poll for the first time in program history. Expectations are high for many individual players as well with more than half a dozen players on preseason watch lists for national awards.
Baylor football season tickets, including the sold-out Dec. 7 game against Texas, are still available along with single-game tickets to the Bears' remaining six home games.
