Big 12 Celebration-Blues Fest Set for Oct. 18

Blues Fest '96, an event celebrating Baylor University's first home game as a member of the Big 12 Conference, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, in Indian Spring Park.
On the following day, Baylor will host the University of Oklahoma for a 6 p.m. football game at Floyd Casey Stadium.
At 6:30 p.m. Friday, members of the Baylor Golden Waco Band will escort city of Waco, Baylor and Oklahoma officials up Austin Ave in a street parade. Blues Fest entertainment then will continue inside an enclosed area on Austin Ave. between Seventh and Eighth Streets. Austin blues guitarist Sue Foley, whose talent has been compared to vocalist Ricki Lee Jones and the late Stevie Ray Vaughan, will perform at 7:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on an outdoor stage.
Waco's own blues based rock n' roll band, the D'Javaheads, will perform outside at 6:45 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Marcia Ball, whom many hail as the "boogie woogie queen of piano" will take the main stage inside the Hippodrome theater at 9 p.m.
River Square restaurants Diamond Back's, Burgers & Blues, and Ninfa's will be open throughout the evening. Other eateries will offer coffee and other food along Austin Ave.
Blues Fest is sponsored by First Waco National Bank and presented by Downtown Waco, Inc., Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce, and Hippodrome Theatre.
