WACO, Texas (May 3, 2013)--More than 90 looks created by Baylor fashion students will be on display at the Cirque de la Mode fashion show this year.

The department of family and consumer sciences in Baylor's College of Arts & Sciences will host the annual event at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, on the fifth floor of Cashion Academic Center, 1401 S. Fourth St.
The show will feature five scenes: "The Ring Master," "The Lion Tamer," "The Spectator," "The Aerialist" and a final scene titled, "The Final Act" where seniors will present their senior collections.
"This show will be a beautiful representation of what a fashion show is all about," said Mary Simpson, Ph.D., apparel design and product development program coordinator in the department of family and consumer sciences. "The designers featured in the show are able to see their inspirations go from conceptual to actual."
The show is a collaborative effort between the undergraduates of the apparel merchandising and the apparel design and product development programs. The French theme for the show, Cirque de la Mode translates to "Circus of Fashion." It was one of six proposed themes in the Fall 2012 fashion trend analysis and forecasting class taught by Lorynn Divita, Ph.D., associate professor in the department of family and consumer sciences.
Design students attended presentations and helped the forecasting class narrow the proposed themes from six to three. The three themes that advanced were then presented to the Spring 2013 forecasting class, who picked the winning theme and worked through the semester to come up with supporting props, decorations, entertainment and a script for the show.
"The Cirque de la Mode fashion show is truly a collaborative effort between Dr. Divita's forecasting class and the students of all academic levels from both the apparel design and product development and the apparel merchandising program areas," Simpson said.
While the apparel merchandising students were working on the production of the show, the apparel design and product development students worked on designing and producing garments for the show. All garments used in the show were created by students in several design courses.
"The whole design program area is abuzz with excitement for this show and frankly, it will be the event of the year--one which no one would want to miss," Simpson said.
Fashion merchandising students are responsible for the marketing, ticket sales, commentary, programs and training of models. Baylor senior and Uproar Records Artist Layne Lynch is scheduled to perform.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased in the Bill Daniel Student Center ticket box office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
