WACO, Texas (April 29, 2013)--The 14th annual Black Glasses Film Festival will screen films directed and created by students from film and digital media division of Baylor's College of Arts & Sciences.
The festival will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Baylor's Jones Theatre in the Hooper-Shaefer Fine Arts Center, 60 Baylor Ave.
"Attending Black Glasses is an excellent opportunity for students to enjoy the experience of watching different kinds of films while supporting the creative efforts of their fellow students," said Jim Kendrick, Ph.D., associate professor in Baylor's department of communication.
Black Glasses takes place at the end of each spring semester and is dedicated to exhibiting the best student work in filmmaking and screenwriting.
Black Glasses Film Festival was started 14 years ago by a group of students. The students named the festival in honor of film professor Mary Slaughter, Ph.D., known for wearing black-framed glasses.
"For filmmakers, there is nothing more gratifying than seeing an audience respond to their work, and I think that viewers will be impressed with the quality of work their peers are producing," Kendrick said.
Awards will be given for for Best Picture, Best Editing, Best Cinematography and an Audience Choice voted on by the audience the evening of the festival. All of the awards will include cash prizes.
The festival is $3 for students, seniors and those in the military and $5 for adults. Tickets can be purchased in the front office, Room 150, of the Castellaw Communications Building, 219 Baylor Ave. The first 150 tickets will receive a free Black Glasses t-shirt.
