WACO, Texas (April 26, 2013)--Baylor University religion scholar Philip Jenkins, Ph.D., will be among lecturers at the 2013 Wilberforce Weekend Conference in Arlington, Va.
The conference will take place April 26 to April 28 at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View.
Jenkins, Distinguished Professor of History at Baylor, is co-director for the Program on Historical Studies of Religion in Baylor's Institute for Studies of Religion.
In his address, Jenkins will focus on Christianity in world history.
"For me, it's a wonderful opportunity to speak with some of the most influential leaders on the contemporary Christian scene, and I'm truly honored by the invitation," Jenkins said.
Jenkins will speak among other high-profile evangelists such as Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York; Timothy George, dean of the Beeson Divinity School at Samford University; and Eric Metaxas, founder of Socrates in the City and author of New York Times-bestselling "Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy."
The conference, "Making the Invisible Kingdom Visible," will emphasize the need to be visible expressions of God's love, grace, justice and mercy in the church, community and culture. Those who attend will be encouraged to push back against the darkness of sin, bringing shalom (wholeness) to every area of culture.

ABOUT THE INSTITUTE FOR THE STUDIES OF RELIGION
Launched in August 2004, the Baylor Institute for Studies of Religion (ISR) exists to initiate, support and conduct research on religion, involving scholars and projects spanning the intellectual spectrum: history, psychology, sociology, economics, anthropology, political science, epidemiology, theology and religious studies. The institute's mandate extends to all religions, everywhere, and throughout history, and embraces the study of religious effects on prosocial behavior, family life, population health, economic development and social conflict. While always striving for appropriate scientific objectivity, ISR scholars treat religion with the respect that sacred matters require and deserve. For more information, visit www.baylorisr.org
