Events to Kick Off For Women's History Month

WACO, Texas (March 4, 2013)--March is Women's History Month (WHM). After being petitioned by the National Women's History Project, Congress in 1989 declared WHM a national celebration. Since then, WHM has highlighted the accomplishments of some of the greatest women in history.
Baylor University's department of multicultural affairs celebrates WHM through a series of on-campus events:
• Dr Pepper Hour: WHM Spotlight, 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, in Barfield Drawing Room of the Bill Daniel Student Center (SUB), 1311 S. Fifth St.
To kick off WHM, the department of multicultural affairs will host Dr Pepper Hour. To honor women and community organizations in a big way. Baylor organizations have the option to host a table during Dr Pepper Hour and display a tribute to WHM in the form of a poster presentation. As multiple organizations compete for cash prizes, the Baylor community will have the opportunity to learn more about WHM.
• WHM Speaker: Monisha Randolph, 6 p.m. Thursday, March 7, in the Bobo Spiritual Life Center, 500 Speight Ave.
Author and RCAA certified distance running coach Monisha Randolph joins the department of multicultural affairs for a lecture, "Fit: The New Fabulous." This lecture will explore what it means to be fit and how that plays a role in a woman's inner beauty and strength. Participants will walk away with an increased knowledge of realistic fitness and free online fitness resources. Snacks will be provided. • WHM Zumba Bash, 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in the McLane Student Life Center Gym, 209 Speight Ave.
The department of multicultural affairs and the department of campus recreation team up for WHM Zumba Bash. Door prizes and free snacks will be provided and the organization with the most members in attendance will win a free Zumba party. For more information, contact annelise_garner@baylor.edu.
"The department of multicultural affairs hopes that this year's Women's History Month events will inspire Baylor women on campus to feel empowered to live holistically healthy lives and to be proud to be women," said Annelise Hardegree, graduate apprentice for the department of multicultural affairs.
"We are also working to encourage all students to learn more about the female experience and the obstacles that women still work to overcome today."
