Baylor President Starr will read Seuss classic The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins to local school children

WACO, Texas (Feb. 28, 2013) - In partnership with the National Education Association's (NEA) Read Across America project, Baylor Bookstore will host an in-store celebration for Dr. Seuss Day on Friday, March 1. Read Across America's Dr. Seuss Day is an annual event held to encourage reading with younger children by celebrating the birthday of famous children's book author and illustrator Theodor Seuss Geisel.

Baylor Bookstore will kick off the festivities with entertainment from local puppeteer and storyteller Sandy Shrout, followed by Waco Libraries storyteller Vivian Rutherford. In the afternoon, students from surrounding elementary schools will visit the bookstore for a special reading of Dr. Seuss's The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins by Baylor University President Ken Starr. Sandy Shrout and Vivian Rutherford will perform again after Judge Starr's reading. Bruiser the Bear, Baylor's mascot, will be entertaining during the morning and afternoon sessions. The bookstore also will serve refreshments after the reading.

The Baylor Bookstore welcomes the campus and local Waco community to join its in-store Dr. Seuss Day Celebration. This event also coincides with a two-day sale taking place at the bookstore Thursday, Feb. 28, through Friday, March 1. Bookstore shoppers can take advantage of discounts on select merchandise, including hooded sweatshirts, sweatpants, backpacks, leggings, tights and more.
