Baylor University Hosts Religion Department Annual Lecture

WACO, Texas (Feb. 26, 2013) - Paul Martens, Ph.D., will be the featured speaker for the annual lecture hosted by Baylor University's religion department in the College of Arts & Sciences. His lecture is titled "You are What You Wear: Reflections on Clothing and Christian Identity" and will be given at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, in Miller Chapel in the Tidwell Bible Building, 600 Speight Ave.
After graduating from the University of Notre Dame with a Ph.D. in Christian ethics and moral theology, Martens joined the faculty of Baylor's department of religion. His research interests include the relationship between ethics and religion and the ethics of war and peace. In addition to the numerous theological articles he has written, Martens' book "The Heterodox Yoder" was published in 2012.
"Martens is an excellent lecturer and has been conducting research that would be valuable to our faculty and students," said Dennis Horton, Ph.D., associate director of Baylor's religion department and the J. David Slover Professor of Ministry Guidance.
"His topic, "You are What You Wear," should be particularly appealing to all of us, because we all need to think about the implications of our clothing purchases beyond how they look on us. We also need to consider what our clothing purchases say about who we are. His lecture will help us think through these issues."
