Baylor University Hosts Social Network Expert for Guest Lecture

WACO, Texas (Feb. 15, 2013) - "How Interdisciplinary is the Social Scientific Study of Religion?" will be the subject of a lecture by jimi adams, Ph.D., hosted by Baylor University's department of sociology. The lecture will take place at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, in Room 345 of the Draper Academic Building, 1420 S. Seventh St.
The lecturer received his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University and later joined the faculty of American University as an assistant professor of sociology. His research interests include social networks, health issues and demography. A particular focus of his work is the relation of social networks to the spread of ideas and diseases, especially in HIV high-risk populations.
Findings from adams' research have been published in the American Journal of Public Health and several other academic journals. His research also has led to his involvement with international projects in Malawi and South Africa.
"jimi adams is a well-respected sociologist with expertise in social networks, research methods, HIV/AIDS and religion," said Jeremy Uecker, Ph.D., assistant professor of sociology in Baylor's College of Arts & Sciences. "His talk will provide both an interesting description of the networks of scholars in the social scientific study of religion and a better understanding of how these scholarly networks influence the nature of research being conducted in the field."
