WACO, Texas (Nov. 7, 2012) - Baylor University students, faculty and staff will gather to honor members of the military, past and present, during a Veterans Day recognition ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, on Fountain Mall, 1360 S. Fifth St. The ceremony is sponsored by Veterans of Baylor, Army ROTC and Air Force ROTC.
The event will begin with an address by Curt Nichols, Ph.D., a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and a veteran of the United States Army. He now teaches political science in the College of Arts & Sciences at Baylor. His address will be followed by a presentation of the colors by the Baylor Army ROTC Color Guard and an honorary flag-folding ceremony. More than 100 flags will remain on Fountain Mall throughout the day as a tribute to veterans, those who were prisoners of war or missing in action and their families.
"We are hoping that this flag-folding ceremony will not only honor military veterans who have gone before us and who are presently serving, but that it will also show the importance of this day of remembrance to students and alumni," said Rachael Harrelson, a veteran of the United States Navy a senior communication sciences and disorders major and president of Veterans of Baylor.
Members of the Waco community are encouraged to attend the ceremony in honor of those who have served the United States in defense of liberty. For more information, call 757-663-1334, or e-mail Rachael_Harrelson@baylor.edu.
