Baylor President Issues Statement on Campus Fatality

Baylor President Robert B. Sloan Jr. today issued the following statement following today's fatality at the Baylor University swimming pool on University Parks Drive:
"We are deeply saddened by the death of this young lady, and our hearts and prayers go out to her family and friends. This event reminds us that life is both fragile and precious.
"On behalf of the entire Baylor community, we wish the Palich family love and comfort."
Shannon Bowen, 15, collapsed while attending a birthday party in her honor at the Baylor pool at approximately 3 p.m. today. Preliminary indications reveal that she did not drown, but an autopsy is tentatively scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
Bowen is the daughter of Dr. Leslie and Diana Palich of Woodway. Dr. Palich is assistant professor of management at Baylor's Hankamer School of Business.
