Baylor Libraries Present "Celebration of Texas" Exhibit

Waco, Texas (March 30, 2012) - Starting this month, Baylor University Libraries are celebrating Texas with an exhibit in the Goodpasture Concourse of Moody Memorial Library, 1312 S. Third St. The traveling "Texas Writers" exhibit will be on display from March 28 to the end of May as part of "A Celebration of Texas: Literature, Music & Film."
The exhibit, which is sponsored in part by a grant from Humanities Texas, Baylor Libraries, the Historic Waco Foundation, the Cooper Foundation and other campus departments, features 22 panels of pictures and information featuring writers in different areas. Topics featured on the panels include two Texas triumvirates, sportswriters, The Mexican Texan/Mexican American voice, El Paso writers, African Texas writers, poets, screenwriters, mystery writers and others.
"The exhibit witnesses to the creativity and productivity of many popular Texas writers in many different genres," said Carl Flynn, director of communications and marketing for University Libraries and ITS at Baylor. "One of the things we learned during the preparation of this exhibit, for instance, is that the most prolific country songwriter of our time, Cindy Walker, was born in Mexia, Texas, and continued to live there until her death in 2006. There are many more 'treasures' from well-known writers who are from Texas. So the exhibit demonstrates the cultural contribution of Texas to the broader culture."
