Baylor German Professor Selected to Attend Fulbright-Sponsored Seminar in Germany

Jennifer L. Good, Ph.D., associate professor of German in the College of Arts & Sciences at Baylor University, has been selected to attend the 2012 Baden-Württemberg Seminar for American Faculty in German and German Studies this summer at the University of Tübingen in Tübingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

The seminar, which will be held June 10-23, offers professional development to American educators in German studies, including German language, literature, culture, professional education, politics and higher education. It includes visits to other universities in Baden-Württemberg to explore the regional priorities and current developments, facilitated through encounters with colleagues, administrators, students and experts in the fields.

Funding is provided by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts, and the German-American Fulbright Commission in Berlin.

Good said she is excited to have been chosen because it will be a great learning experience, as Fulbright and the universities in Baden-Württemberg have a reputation for excellence. More than that, the opportunity to travel and participate in the seminar with other American German Studies professors is important for networking and cooperation in the field.

"The seminar itself promises to be very instructive," Good said. "We will learn first-hand about the recent changes in higher education in Germany, tour campuses and meet faculty and administration at the Universities of Baden-Württemberg and learn, from the German side, about the developments in 'German as a foreign language' pedagogy. I expect that what I learn will be immediately useful in my classes and in my research."

Good earned bachelor's degrees in German and in humanities, political science and Russian, from the University of Missouri at Columbia in 1990. She received her master's degree in German literature and pedagogy from the University of Iowa in 1993 and her doctoral degree in modern German literature and film from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 2004.
Before joining the Baylor faculty, she served on the Indiana University faculty from 1998 to 2003.

Her research interests include East German (DEFA) films and post-war cultural projects, such as politics and gender of the Cold War, literature and German Studies. In addition to teaching and scholarship, she is co-director of the Baylor in Germany program, German Club adviser and co-sponsor of the German honor society, Delta Phi Alpha.
