Men's Glee Club in Concert April 23

The Baylor University Men's Glee Club will present its annual spring concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, in Jones Concert Hall. The program will be conducted by Wesley Gilliland, assistant professor of choral music and director of ensembles
The 56-voice Men's Glee Club will open the program with seven sacred pieces, all composed or arranged during the 20th century Franz Biebl's setting of "Ave Maria." The program will feature a solo ensemble of six vocalists, and Norman Dello Joio's "O Sing Unto the Lord" will be sung by a trio.
Other selections on the first half of the concert will be "Praise Him!" by Michael Cox, "Come Thou Holy Spirit" by P. Tschesnokoff, "A Hymn to God the Father" by John Ness Beck, "More Love, O Christ, to Thee" by Lanny Lanford, and "Gospel Hymn Medley," an arrangement by Baylor's Douglas Claybrook, lecturer in academic studies.
Following intermission, the Men's Glee Club will present a half-dozen pieces on a wide array of subjects. Of particular interest is Benjamin Britten's "The Ballad of Little Musgrave and Lady Barnard," which was composed in 1944 for prisoners of war.
The remaining works will be "The Awakening" by Joseph M. Martin, Don Moore's setting of the familiar "Workin' on the Railroad," William Henry Smith's "Ride the Chariot," Roger Wagner's medley of "Western Songs," and, lastly, an arrangement by George Mead of "Down in the Valley."
