Chamber Singers Set Spring Concerts April 14-15

The Baylor University Chamber Singers will present their spring concerts on Sunday, April 14, and Monday, April 15, in the Armstrong-Browning Library's McLean Foyer of Meditation. The Sunday performance will begin at 3 p.m. and the Monday performance will begin at 8 p.m.
The Chamber Singers are conducted by Donald Bailey, Baylor's Mary Gibbs Jones Professor of Music, director of choral activities and director of vocal studies. Bailey has conducted the 16-voice ensemble since the fall of 1993, when he succeeded the group's founding director, Dr. Robert H. Young. Young will appear as guest conductor in both of these concerts, leading The Chamber Singers in a performance of the "Prayer to Jesus" by English composer and organist George Oldroyd and in his own "Missa Brevis."
His "The Song of Mary-Magnificat" (from his "Emmanuel-God With Us") also will be sung.
Other works by 20th-century American composers will be "Three French Choruses from 'The Lark'" by Leonard Bernstein and "Three European Folksongs" by Mack Wilberg, who serves on the music faculty of Brigham Young University.
Also included in the two programs will be "Exultate, justi" by Lodovico Viadana, "Vere languores" by Tomás de Victoria, "Psalm 96" by Jan Sweelinck, "If Ye Love Me" by Thomas Tallis, and "Haec Dies" by William Byrd.
These concerts by The Chamber Singers are free and open to the public. Because of the limited seating capacity in Armstrong-Browning Library, early arrival is suggested.
