Baylor University's division of film and digital media will host a showing of the 2010 drama "Dance With the One" from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, in Room 101 of Castellaw Communications Center on the Baylor campus.
The event, which is free and open to the public, is this semester's third screening in the fall Texas Independent Film Network film series presented by the film and digital media division in the Baylor department of communication studies.
Directed by Michael Dolan, the film follows Nate (Gabriel Luna), a small-time drug dealer, who wants out of Texas. Haunted by the death of his mother, he wants out of his family home and away from his drug-dealing father and little brother, who depend on him for everything. He wants nothing more than to escape with the love of his life, Nikki (Xochitl Romero), but to do so he must take on one big score.

"Dance With the One" was written by Smith Henderson and Jon Marc Smith in 2007 and is the first feature film in America to be made by a nonprofit educational entity, the University of Texas Film Institute (UTFI). The film was shot in 2008 with the assistance of more than 120 University of Texas and UTFI students.

Following the screening, discussion will be held with special guest Dana Wheeler-Nicholson, one of the actors in the film. Nicholson has extensive film and television acting credits dating back to the 1980s. Her film roles include "Fletch" (1985), "Tombstone" (1993) and "Fast Food Nation" (2006). She also has appeared on television shows such as "Seinfeld," "The X-Files," "Law and Order" and "Friday Night Lights."
The series will continue at 7 p.m. Nov. 17, in Room 101 of the Castellaw Communications Center with "Mars," directed by Geoff Marslett.
Castellaw Communications Center is at 219 Baylor Ave.
