Jan 13 Song and Dance!
Hula Auana DancersA fun-filled day of music is in store for you on Saturday, January 13th at the Mayborn Museum Complex! Kids will have a great time seeing hula dancers, learning folk songs, hearing children's songwriter/musician Joe McDermott, and making their own music at craft time. The day kicks off at 10:30 am as music teacher Marti Koch entertains all with her folk songs in Kid's Corner. Marti will play again at 12:30 pm and at 3:30 pm so you will have plenty of chances to catch one of her shows!

Joe McDermottParents Choice Award winner Joe McDermott will be performing two shows in the Thomas E. and Emilyne Weed Anding Traveling Exhibit Hall filled with his imaginative, award-winning music. The first performance is scheduled for 11:00 am and the second will begin at 2:00 pm. This promises to be a fun experience for parents and children alike, so make sure to be in the audience to hear this nationally recognized performer. Come to the "People of the World Room" to see a group of dancers demonstrate the famous hula! They will perform three shows as well so stop by at 12:00 pm, 3:00 pm or 4:00 pm for this crowd pleasing event.

All this great music and dance will inspire your kids to experiment with sounds of their own. Visit the upstairs hallway to play with sound tubes, shakers, and bells. They can also make musical instruments like the Clucking Chicken and the Straw Whistle. Remember to bring your camera and make memories of this fun day with your child.

Apr 14 Threads That Bind Through Time
Come one, come all! Central Texans are invited to discover the craftsmanship on nine skilled textile artists of many types of handiwork such as quilting, knitting, looming, and weaving on April 14, 2007. Eight regional groups and artists will perform demonstrations and reveal their craft. You will also have the chance to participate and create your own lanyard!

This event compliments the exhibit, A Stitch in Time that runs from April 14 July 17, 2007. By learning about the art of textiles, you will be able to see the similarities in the quilt exhibit which traces the history of the quilting tradition from hand sewing to early use of the sewing machine. Through the focus on the quilting process, the exhibit fosters a new appreciation for the tradition of American quilting.
