Klaus Kirsten Co-Organizer of MSRI Summer Graduate WorkshopApril 13, 2008
Professor Klaus Kirsten (Baylor) and Professor Floyd Williams (University of Massachussetts) are organizing a two week Summer Graduate Workshop at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI) at The University of California - Berkeley from June 16-29, 2008.
The title of their workshop is 'A Window into Zeta and Modular Physics'. The focus of this two week workshop is on the interplay between physics and number theory. These two seemingly diverse disciplines have drawn close together in recent years due to applications of number theory to, for example, cosmology, black holes, field theory, string theory, Bose-Einstein condensation, and the theory of relativistic gases. For further information on this workshop, please visit www.msri.org/calendar/index_sgw.
Interested graduate students from universities that are Academic Sponsors of MSRI are eligible to apply for admission into this workshop; space is limited but if their application is accepted, MSRI will cover both travel and local expenses. Graduate students are encouraged to talk to their Director of Graduate Studies at their respective institutions; for further information on financial support and to see whether or not your institution is an Academic Sponsor, please visit the MSRI web pages www.msri.org/sponaff/Support_Academic and www.msri.org/sponaff/Academic_Benefits#Benefits.
