Kathy Hutchison Wins Teaching AwardJuly 23, 2013
Kathy Hutchison, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics, was recently given an Outstanding Professor Award from Baylor Athletics. Kathy was chosen to receive this honor by Baylor student-athletes for her commitment to teaching excellence.
"Kathy is an extraordinary teacher and we are thrilled that she won this prestigious award from the Athletic Department at Baylor.", says Department chair Lance Littlejohn, "She is a versatile teacher who has the ability and knowledge to teach every freshman mathematics course for us. She is also a caring teacher with high expectations for her students."
Kathy earned her B.A. (Magna Cum Laude) and her M.S. degrees in mathematics at Baylor in, respectively, 1975 and 1984. She joined the Baylor math faculty in 1985 as a lecturer and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2000. Each semester, Kathy teaches four classes to more than 200 students. "Kathy and our other full-time lecturers do the bulk of the undergraduate teaching in our department.", says Littlejohn, "Without their commitment, dedication, and excellence in the classroom, we would not have been able to develop our graduate program or build on our reputation in research. Our lecturers form a vitally important part of our department's overall success".
Congratulations, Kathy! We are all very proud of you and so fortunate to have you in our department!
