Martin Museum of Art to Feature Selections from the Permanent Collection
May 31, 2011The Martin Museum of Art at Baylor University will feature "Selections from the Permanent Collection", which will showcase artwork from the museum's permanent collection and recent acquisitions from the 2010-2011 academic years. The exhibition is scheduled from May 31 to June 18 in Gallery I.
Artists included in the exhibition are Richard Aerni, Phillip Ahnen, Mark W. Anderson, Romare Bearden, Jerry Dodd, Dornith Doherty, Jane Dudgeon, Ted Egri, Kelly Fearing, Nicolai Fechin, Dan Hammett, Paul P. Hatgil, Mauricio Lasansky, Stephen Magada, Walter McCown, Robert Rauschenberg, Hugo Shi, James Surls, and Darlene Wall.
One of the highlights of the exhibition is a recently restored painting by Nicolai Fechin, a Russian born artist who became a well-renowned American impressionist painter during the first half of the 20th century. The large oil on canvas portrait portrays Vera Fokina, a famous Russian ballerina who lived in New York during the same time as Fechin.
The Martin Museum of Art is located in the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center on the Baylor University campus. Hours are 10-5 Tuesday through Friday, and 12-5pm on Saturday. The museum is closed during university holidays. Admission is free and all events are open to the public, unless specified.
