Hatgil Donation of Artwork
June 4, 2007
The Martin Museum of Art is pleased to be the recipient of ten prints and drawings donated from the collection of Professor and Mrs. Paul Peter Hatgil. Artists represented in the donation include David Adickes, Garo Antresian, Kelly Fearing, Vincent Mariani, Leonard Baskin, Mort Baranoff, and Loren Mozley. Most of the works have been created by former art faculty from The University of Texas at Austin and some from nationally recognized artists.
Professor Emeritus Paul Peter Hatgil attended the Massachusetts College of Art, Columbia University and the Harvard University Extension School immediately following his tour of service with the military during World War II, where he served with the U.S. Air Corp in the South Pacific area of operations. In 1951 he was appointed as an instructor at the University of Texas and in 1985 named Professor Emeritus. Professor Hatgil has published the results of his research in the ancient art of encaustic painting, contributes to professional journals, and continues his exploration and discovery in the field of studio art. In 2003 he was appointed for a three year term as a member of the American Hellenic Educational Foundation whose mission is to award scholarships to worthy students.
Selectied works from the Hatgil donation will be on display at the Martin Museum of Art during "Selections from the Permanent Collection", June 19 - August 2 (closed July 4).
