Baylor University Poage Library

Family of John Dowdy Supports Poage Library

In 1999 the children of John Dowdy, 7th Texas district congressmen, 1952-1972, contacted Baylor about doing something significant in honor of their parents, John and JD Dowdy. Carol Sue and Forrest Roberts of Aiken, SC, and John "Skip" and Sarah Dowdy of Arlington, Texas, worked together to establish the John and JD Dowdy Memorial Congressional Research Endowment. Since then, the Foundation has made annual gifts to the library.

In addition to the research endowment, The Dowdy Foundation has funded

•the Dowdy Media Lab located in the Poage Gallery office area,

•an archival-friendly exhibit case in the gallery,

•a library intern endowment,

•a library supply endowment, and

•the Dowdy Presidential Collection of Bob Platt.

The Foundation has recently been dissolved which resulted in the establishment of the John V. and Sarah C. Dowdy Poage Legislative Library Endowed Fund and John and Sarah Dowdy Scholarship for Library Interns. These endowments will continue to fund research grants, library interns and archival supplies for the years to come. Thank you Carol Sue, Forrest, Skip and Sarah.
