POSITION: The Bob Bullock Archivist

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Bob Bullock Archivist works in the W. R. Poage Legislative Library, a dynamic research collection established in 1979 and devoted to collecting political materials. The Bob Bullock Archivist is responsible for collecting, organizing, processing and accessing archival materials. This is an academic professional position with faculty status.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

•Master's degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited institution with a concentration in archives; Master's degree in archival studies; or graduate degree in a relevant field (e.g. history or political science) with coursework in archival practice

•Experience processing collections (graduate internships or capstone projects count toward this requirement)

•Excellent oral and written communication skills

•Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively; and to complete projects within a limited timeframe

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

•Thorough knowledge of archival theory, methods, and practices and a basic knowledge of preservation techniques

•ACA certification

•Two or more years of successful experience processing large manuscript or university collections

•Experience with archives management software (e.g. Archivists' Toolkit, Cuadra STAR, Eloquent)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Demonstrates leadership, vision and creativity in collecting, organizing, processing and providing access to the archival collections in Poage Library

•Directs and oversees the appraisal, acquisition, processing, preservation, and digitization of special and archival collections

•Creates finding aids using DACS, and stays abreast of national archival standards

•Provides outstanding reference service to users as part of a dynamic service-oriented team

•Identifies and develops successful relationships with potential donors

•Promotes the visibility and use of the Bullock Archives and other library materials/collections

•Assists in developing policies and procedures for all phases of archival work and management

•Works collaboratively with library faculty and staff on assigned projects

•Participates in planning, policy development, and Poage Library decision-making

•Assists with Poage Library outreach endeavors

•Writes and/or provides information for press releases about all processed collections

•Trains and supervises student assistants working on manuscript and special collections

•Provides updated information for the Poage Library website and other social networking sites

•Fulfill scholarly and professional expectations as described in the University Policy on Academic Professionals

•Represents Baylor at appropriate professional archival and library organizations

•Serves on University Libraries and University Faculty Committees as appointed or elected

RANK AND SALARY: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
