Baylor University Poage Library

35th Anniversary

On a beautiful day in September 1979, the W.R. Poage Legislative Library and Graduate Research Center opened its doors with the papers of Congressman Poage. Fast forward 35 years, the Poage Library is a thriving archive and research center, boosting hundreds of researchers in the past three decades. Home to 12 congressional, 8 state legislative, 4 judicial and several supporting collections, the Poage proudly tells the story of modern political history rooted in Central Texas.

On Friday, October 17, friends of the library gathered once more in Waco to celebrate, remember and give thanks for the 35 years of the Poage Library. We began with a luncheon at the Baylor Club, McLane Stadium, followed by exhibit reception in the W. R. Poage Exhibit Gallery. The exhibit, "Treasures from the Vault" captures the spirit of the library through its many collections. We applaud the unselfish statesmanship of Congressman Poage, Lt. Governor Bob Bullock, Marvin Leath and Chet Edwards. Today, the staff and student assistants of the library work to honor these visionary leaders and their commitment to service. With this foundation, we give thanks for our many blessings and with great anticipation and promise, look forward to the next 35 years!
